Destination Wedding in Mykonos, Greece: The Ultimate Greek Island Celebration

9/2/25

A destination wedding in Mykonos, Greece is the ultimate blend of romance, luxury, and breathtaking scenery. With its whitewashed architecture, turquoise waters, and iconic sunsets over the Aegean Sea, Mykonos offers the perfect backdrop for couples dreaming of a Greek island wedding that feels straight out of a fairytale. Whether you envision an intimate beach ceremony or a lavish villa celebration, this stunning island brings magic to every moment.

And for Brittany and Isaac, the destination wedding of their dreams came true this August. Tangled up in the grecian winds, deeply rooted in the grooms history, they tied the knot with friends and family close by. This is their story.

As told by the bride: "Isaac and I met when we were little kids. We have been family friends for 20+ years! We always had a crush on each other but never dated until we reconnected after college. Funny little fact, Isaacs parents met when they were little kids too".

With the sun shinning down, I walked up the entrance way of the resort that the couple was hosting their wedding at. The Greek flag was flapping with the wind at an incredible speed. I'm surprised it even stayed tethered down. But that was an element to their wedding day that almost became its own character.

The glorious wind. What an incredible addition to an already gorgeous wedding day, at a truly unique destination. Brittany and Isaac had gotten ready together at their own hotel and meet me at the lobby of the resort. Walking in, they were dressed in the most breathtaking bridal attire! Isaac wore a tan suit with a white undershirt and brown shoes that matched the bright and rocky surroundings and Brittany wore the most elegantly editorial wedding dress, paired with sheer arm gloves and the most magnificent bow I have ever seen that trialed to the end of her gown.

With the slow pace of their wedding we were able to walk around the resort and get a few bridals before guests starting showing up. And what an excellent way to plan a wedding day. The slow down allowed for us to get creative and really sink into their day to capture it to the absoltue fullest without anything feeling rushed or chatoic.

As guests started to arrive, it was a sea of blue's to match the aegean sea. The color coordination was the most perfect match for this destination wedding. I couldn't help but smile from ear to ear behind my lens as I snapped photos of the guests all coming together. Family members helping attach homemade Kippah's for the men to wear, the hugs and embraces just added to the wonderfully intimate feeling to their wedding day.

With the waves crashing below, the wind rushing passed, everyone took their seats as the ceremony began and the magic of these two coming together was witnessed by the family.

NewlyWeds beofre the ceremony

The ceremony unfolded on a beautiful terrace overlooking the sea. Beneath a delicate chuppah draped in green florals, Brittany and Isaac exchanged vows surrounded by family and friends, blending timeless Jewish traditions with the breathtaking charm of a Greek island wedding. Laughter and happy tears filled the air, and the soft glow of the setting sun turned the ceremony into pure magic.

With the blessings of their family, the exchanging of rings and the smashing of glass, they were married!

Greeted with cheers, the newlyweds shared a first married kiss and walked down the aisles to the clapping and excitement of their guests.  With smiles spread across their faces, they walked hand in hand as Mr. and Mrs. Nelson.

There’s something truly magical about photographing destination weddings.

It’s where love stories meet breathtaking landscapes, and every frame feels like part of a cinematic masterpiece. For me, it’s more than just capturing a wedding day; it’s about documenting emotions, cultures, and connections in places where beauty feels infinite. Each destination brings its own soul. For Greece?  It's the turquoise waters of Mykonos, the golden sunsets over the Aegean, the busy cobblestone streets where couples steal a moment away from the world.

I love weaving the essence of a location into every photograph, blending it with the intimacy of each couple’s story. No two weddings are ever the same, and that unpredictability excites me. The light, the laughter, the tears, the traditions from around the globe. Being trusted to travel, witness, and preserve these once-in-a-lifetime moments is my greatest honor, and it’s why destination wedding photography will always be my dream.

Why I Love Photographing destination weddings

While the guests were off to the reception, we stepped away for some golden hour newlywed photos and the setting sun did not disappoint. With the most glorious sunset happening, the sky turned a rich color of red and orange, the sun setting into the ocean below.  With the quiet sounds of the water lapping below, I couldn't help but try my best to soak in everything unfolding in front of my eyes. This was one of those wedding that I just knew was going to leave a mark on my soul. And I wasn't wrong.

When the sun had finally dipped below the horizon, I followed the newlyweds to their reception. Waiting for them to enter, the guests buzzed about with excited energy. With the waving of napkins and the hollering of family, Brittany and Isaac made their entrance and soon after they were both hoisted into the air! Family bounced them up and down rhythmically to the sound of music blasting the whole room bursting with the most lovingly chaotic energy!

A quick dress change later and they were off mingling with their family. The room echoed with conversations overlapping, the music pulsing in the background and the breeze cooling off the evening warmth. It honestly was the most magical kind of wedding to experience and capture. I would do it all over again in a heartbeat.
